Certificate course for soil practitioners in arable farming in Lower Austria 2021
The aim of this training is to encourage farmers to pay more attention to their roots - the soil. High natural soil fertility is the basis for long-term success in agriculture. Careful soil management and humus enhancement ensure sustainably good yields and plant health. In the 9-day certificate course Soil Practitioner, farmers and people working in the agricultural sector taught theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of soil management.
Start: probably April 2021 - we kindly ask for pre-registration.
Location
: The course locations depend on the origin of the course participants and will be announced at the start of registration (according to the regions Weinviertel, Waldviertel, Mostviertel, Industrieviertel).

Excursion multi-use hedges on 05.05.2021
Hedges ensure that the fertile topsoil is protected from wind erosion and improve the microclimate. This is becoming increasingly important as an adaptation to climate change. They provide habitats for insects, birds and mammals and thus promote biodiversity and beneficial insects.
Multi-use hedges are created in such a way that they bring additional benefits to the farm beyond these positive effects. A typical example is the use of (wild) fruit and nuts. We visit existing multi-use hedges on the Binder farm and analyse them together with the farm manager with regard to their benefits, biodiversity and protective function.
Other possible uses of multiple-use hedges are also discussed. Multi-use hedges are a tried and tested agroforestry system suitable for Central European agricultural and climatic conditions.
Date: Wednesday, 05.05.2021, Start: 2.00 p.m.
Target group: Farmers who are interested in actively shaping their agricultural landscape.
Speakers: Franz Binder, Dr. Erwin Szlezak, Dr. Eva Erhart
Costs: free of charge
Location: At the wayside shrine between Höbersdorf and Untermallebarn, 2011 Sierndorf. Parking in the field path
Registration until 1 week before the course starts, Click here to register or call Tel. 01/4000 49 150 until 1 week before the course starts.

The "humus balance calculation seminar" deals with the calculation of the long-term humus effect on the farm's own land. Using the site-specific data from eBOD and the management measures, the calculation of the humus balance in the humus balance tool presented in MS Excel (xlsx) format.
It is possible to purchase the humus balancing tool from Bio Research Austria (office@bioforschung.at) before or after the seminar for € 160,- for personal use.

What factors in terms of plant species and machine use support a successful intercropping? What is the importance of location in greening?
What strategies can pursued during dry periods?
Current research results from practice answer questions on greening cultivation. It will be made clear: If the release of nutrients through greening is matched to the needs of the following crop, a wide range of positive effects can be achieved!

Webinar: Humus balancing for your own farm - Part 1 on 16.03.2021 - COMPLETED
Humus is a reservoir for water and organically bound plant nutrients. In humus, carbon is stored and fixed in the soil in a long-term and meaningful way. Humus is therefore important for soil fertility and climate protection alike. This webinar explains the advantages and disadvantages of various humus-building measures such as crop rotation, the addition of crop residues, green manure and compost, and presents humus balancing as a calculation tool. Participants will learn how to extract soil data for humus balancing from eBOD (electronic soil map) and what other information they can use for their farm.
Date: Tuesday, 16.03.2021 from 09:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Location: Online; you will receive access after registration
Speakers: DI Lisa Doppelbauer, Christoph Reithofer, BSc.
Costs: € 20,- per person subsidised, € 40,- per person unsubsidised

Registration until 09.03.2021 at the Biocentre Kärnten, Tel. 0463/5850 - 5400 or Email: helmut.wutte@bio-austria.at
