The ground beneath a scouts foot is to be the center of Austria's largest Campfire, taking place from August 2nd-12th 2010 at Laxenburg's palace garden. Containing a soil laboratory, games and a station for painting with colors of the earth the young scouts facing the chance to get literally into touch with that they have their feet opon. Land Niederoesterreich and the campsite organisation have provided a delicious project for the young participants that gives insights.

The Department of Rural Development supported the governmental project „Our soil - we stand upon it!“ - initiated by Governor Dr. Erwin Proell - together with person in charge for parts of the programm „urGREAN“, Michael Stiller. Therefore eproximately 2.000 Caravelle and Explorer (aged13-16 years) can have a close experience with this primary element soil. (www.unserboden.at)

Environmental protection is a matter of course for scouts at every age. „Leave your campsite in the way you want to discover it by yourself“ is one of the first rules to learn. But what is beneath your campsite? These Caravelles and Explorer will it know by heart at the end of the camp. With the slogan „urGREAN“ they will have chance - together with their adviser - to dicover the soil beneath their feet very closely.

If someone wants to get into touch with the theme soil as a non increasing property can do this by painting with the colors of the earth which correspond only with the soil pigment of Niederoesterreich origin. Also a laboratory literally tamped out of the mud provides microscopes, lenses, colander, filter and tweezers to get a close look at this treasure of organism of the soil. With prefabricated profiles (vertically cut through soil) the young scouts get to know what is necessary by choosing a place as campsite.

Afterwards these scout can evaluate if water will disappear from the campsite after a cloudburst quickly or not. Games like Soil Boccia or Soil Memory show the different types of soil. And everybody who has not come down from football fever yet is invited to continue: a „Scheiberlkistn“ is the new sort of 2 two-person-teams to play a textile ball into the others goal. Very fast and curious at all.

Soil and scouting belog together - itʻs really urGREAN

Not checked what urGREAN stands for?
