Hecken sorgen dafür, dass der fruchtbare Oberboden vor Winderosion geschützt wird und verbessern das Kleinklima. Dies wird als Anpassung an den Klimawandel immer wichtiger. Sie bieten Lebensräume für Insekten, Vögel und Säugetiere und fördern dadurch Biodiversität und Nützlinge.
Mehrnutzungshecken werden so angelegt, dass sie über diese positiven Wirkungen hinaus noch einen Zusatznutzen für den Betrieb bringen.
