On Friday, 20.1.2017, the first project workshop "Regional bio-fertilizer production" took place at Bio Forschung Austria in Vienna-Essling. In six presentations, the project partners Bio Forschung Austria and VermiGrand presented current project results. Initially, Alfred Grand talked about earthworm humus and the idea of using compost extracts for seed dressing. Thereafter, Ivoneta Diethart presented the results of the experiment to test the efficacy of compost extracts for seed dressing of winter cereal seed with and without attack with snow mold (Microdochium nivale). Eva Erhart reported on the project section "Cut and Carry - transfer mulch as a regional biofertilizer" as well as on the results of the literature review on the possibilities of using biochar for the production of substrates and regional biofertilizers. Finally, Alfred Grand presented two further newly developed regional biofertilizer products:
a plant substrate made using biochar, and a liquid fertilizer containing humic acid extracts from earthworm humus.
