Innovation of technologies in composting, compost application and soil protection
Program INTERREG V-A Austria-Czech Republic 2014-2020
Priority axis: Promotion of innovative technologies to improve environmental protection and resource efficiency in waste management, water management, soil management and air pollution reduction.
Project implementation: 1. 9. 2016 - 31. 8. 2019
The INTEKO project aims to improve environmental protection and resource efficiency in waste management in relation to soil and to reduce groundwater pollution and increase the effectiveness of renewable nutrient resources. The project focuses mainly on the technologies of biowaste composting and the improvement of compost quality, further on the methodology of quality determination and composting maturity.
The project lead partner is ZERA (Regional Agency for Agriculture and Ecology, Náměšť nad Oslavou CZ).
Other project partners are Bio Forschung Austria(Vienna, AT), the Mendel University (Brno, CZ) and the Federal Office for Water Management (Vienna, AT).
Strategic project partners are: Agroklastr Vysočina (CZ); City of Vienna, Municipial Department 48 Waste Management, Street Cleaning and Vehicle Fleet (AT); ECN - European Compost Network (DE), ARGE Compost and Biogas Österreich (AT), Lower Austrian agricultural district authority (AT).
Projekt INTEKO
= the quality of the composts, which are currently produced from different input materials and with different technology, should be determined. At the same time, it is to be evaluated which quality and composting parameters are suitable for practical use.
= uses the existing lysimeter network in CZ and AT. The project partners will measure the nutrient leaching (especially of nitrogen) into groundwater using ion exchange probes on field trials. Another project topic is the use of the resource phosphorus in secondary raw materials.
= With the development and use of these eco-innovations in practice, this project promotes the eco-innovative potential in the regions.
The results developed in the project, in particular concerning compost strip assessment and effects of compost fertilization on groundwater, should serve as a technical basis for argumentation in the event of changes in the legal and normative framework conditions.
Total project budget: € 999,700, -. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund under the program INTEREG V-A Austria-Czech Republic 2014-2020.
