Bodenforum Österreich - Herbsttreffen 2024

Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues!

The Federal Environment Agency, the Austrian Soil Science Society (ÖBG), the Netzwerk Zukunftsraum Land, the province of Burgenland and the Burgenland Chamber of Agriculture cordially invite you to the autumn meeting of the Austrian Soil Forum in Burgenland from 15 to 16 October.

This time the event will take place at Friedensburg Schlaining on the following topic.

Soil adé, loss hurts! Soil erosion in Austria

Soil loss due to erosion poses a threat to our soils in Austria and Europe.

Every year, around 6 tonnes of fertile soil per hectare and year are lost to agriculture in Austria due to soil erosion, while the rate of new soil formation is only around 0.6 tonnes. Increased heavy rainfall events and dry periods due to climate change further increase the risk of erosion and thus increase the requirements for erosion protection.

In order to preserve fertile soil for the future supply of healthy, local food, the containment of soil erosion is a major challenge for soil protection in Austria.

The autumn meeting 2024 of the Austrian Soil Forum will focus on the current situation of soil erosion:

• Experts share their knowledge on the current situation regarding soil erosion.

• Practical examples show problems of soil erosion and soil compaction.

• Current facts and figures as well as measures for structural improvement and erosion minimisation are presented.

• Findings from experimental projects are presented in order to minimise soil erosion and the resulting loss of soil resulting loss of soil fertility.

• Results are also presented in connection with the current status of the Soil Monitoring Law will also be considered.
